The İzmir Metropolitan Municipality joined the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) to promote sustainability and social responsibility in the tourism sector.
With this membership, Izmir has taken an important step in sustainable tourism, aiming to introduce tourism elements that are in harmony with nature and the environment to the world.
The Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) was jointly established by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), non-governmental organizations, and the United Nations Foundation. The Council’s mission is to support tourism that aligns with nature and the environment, foster a link between the private sector and public institutions for sustainable tourism within an internationally regulated certification system, contribute to sustainability in destinations, increase the sharing of best practices, and elevate standards.
It is intended that the sustainability criteria established by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) be integrated into the activities of tourism stakeholders in our city.
