Two of the most popular destinations for history enthusiasts in Bornova are Yeşilova Höyük and Yassıtepe Höyük. The Yeşilova Höyük is the city’s first settlement, dating back to 8,500 years at least, while Yassıtepe dates back to 8,000 years.

The Homer Valley is located on the berth of Bornova Stream situated between the center of Bornova and Kayadibi. It is believed that Homer- which is thought to have been from Izmir- lived in a cave in the area, and this is where the valley gets its name from. The 500 thousand square meter valley, which harbors endemic plants specific to Izmir, is an ideal place for those who want to escape from the chaos of the city.

Flower Village, which is 2 kilometers from the Manisa- İzmir Highway and 6 kilometers from Bornova, is like the lungs of İzmir and is a popular excursion spot. The village is especially crowded during the weekends and filled with people who want to start the day with a huge Turkish style breakfast. Besides Çiçekli; Yaka, Kurudere, Beşyol, Çamiçi, Eğridere, Karaçam, Kavaklıdere, Kayadibi, Laka and Sarnıç are other ideal getaway spots.

Bornova Aşık Veysel Recreational Area is another place to spend quality time, thanks to its Olympic style ice rink, sports venues, culture-art halls, large parking lot, basketball court, tennis court, mini soccer fields, areas for kids, outdoor gym, lake, walking path, bicycle path and a 5000 people capacity amphitheater.
